HIGH BUTTON SHOE

Good morning. It holds the promise of being a beautiful morning here. I haven't checked the thermometer for the temperature but it is cool, as the nights have been for the past week or so, which is welcomed relief to the heat of so many weeks. Ron's already thinking that he needs the flannel sheets back on the bed! I am, however, grateful for at least cool nights. The weather will turn soon enough. The long shadows cast across the hay fields in morning and evening are evidence surely that fall is coming. The summer birds are still here, but I suspect soon, will be gone. It always takes me several days before I realize I haven't seen them in a few days, and they are gone.

The kids here start back to school a week from tomorrow.  In this state, they were trying to get a law thru to push the start of school back to the day after Labor Day, but apparently it didn't have time to go thru or couldn't for some reason...as school is starting the third week in August as usual. As our schools are not air conditioned (usually no need), I hope it cools off some for the kids. At least they can wear shorts and t-shirts.  In MY day, that was a total forbidden. And we had all our new fall clothes which were anything BUT made for hot weather. Oh, lest you think, I have children that are going back to school, they are my grandchildren. Godfrey, if it was ME that had kids going back, you never would have gotten one coherent newsletter ever. Not that you always do, of course, but if I had kids at home yet, I dare say, my brain would be more frazzled than usual.

The rains have produced healthy lawns again and I spend a great deal of time mowing, which is on the agenda again for today. I love the "greens" of summer. I never tire of looking out over the fields, and forests here. The roadside is full of chicory, queen annes lace (wild carrot to the resident farmer, who I ignore), and sweet clover. I continue to spend too much time on the front porch with coffee 'watching' the view in front of me. We have spent a lot of time there this summer, with most suppers there. What do people ever do without porches??  It has become my cooling off place this hot summer, as I sit on the front steps, barefooted as usual, and run cool water from the hose over my feet. That tends to drop my internal temperature a degree or two, or maybe only in my mind... but it makes me feel better. Ronnie even takes off his boots occasionally, and sits with me on the steps and lets me run the water over his feet. His feet are white, and clean as opposed to my tan and dirty, but the effect is the same.

I was supposed to make the long awaited and anticipated  trip to Ohio today with BrunieMae, SadieRose, Permelia and Pearl. Some of you know of my nearly life long claustrophobia attacks, that often makes travel (motel rooms MUST have windows that open!!)  difficult for me. BrunieMae (www.saltboxfarm.com) and me travel a lot together and she is very considerate of these sometimes "odd" requirements of  shopping trips with me. Perhaps due to the continued heat of summer, lack of good sleep for weeks or whatever, I had a major attack this past week thinking about being in a motel room for 3 nights (one of the worst panics for me)  and canceled my going to the great meeting of the goodest friends. It would have been an incredible 4 days, of food, shopping, talking all night in the motel rooms, sharing of everyday life & our shops.  They have converged on Ohio, but without me. Ohio will enjoy them. I do NOT know however, how Bruns of the Michigan group could have gotten there without my expert driving skills and Bruns in the navigator seat.  I was literally ecstatic about the thoughts of meeting the infamous Miss Permelia, whom I have known for a considerable time on the internet. However, dearest, we will meet up in person, another time.
I vision all you gals today, knowing you are having the best time. These are truly some of the greatest women you could ever know.  And here I had been practicing walking around with my luggage wheels on the ground too, verses in the air which is apparently, the preferred method of getting into the motel room for me. shhheeeeessshhhh. Permelia got new luggage too, and was influenced, it would seem, by my inability to have the wheels on the ground, so had to make a few trial runs herself. Ah, us country people. Now had it been a hay bale, I know how to transport them!!

Crow soup comes out today with the August edition. I have been working in fall things for a few weeks now. We can be found at http://www.crowsoup.com/Market586.php  later today. We are showing pomegranates, crow tags and another pumpkin makedo. I don't know if Beulah has it up on our website yet in the ranting raven/c.soup icon.  hum.  I am not sure if I know the link to get there.  Beulah has made some website changes over the weekend. She changed the background. I love the new look, but then I always like changes to the website. Much of what shows there has been sold. The fall items go quickly.  We need to get sold signs on a lot of it, but I have to go thru and write it all down, which I haven't done yet.  I need to get some new pictures of the shop taken, as much has changed in there. While I have mastered (un-huh) the digital camera for still shots of the our folk art and often my house, I haven't gotten the flash figured out for the darker shop rooms. And of course, I never KNOW that until I walk back home and put the media chip in the computer.... so I have a deep trench worn in the road between shop and home in an effort to get some new shop pictures.  May have to have Beulah do that. No sense in taxing myself with more camera frustrations.

Okay, I best get myself busy and get this day under way.  In mid August, I feel this urgency to get so many things done and the cooler days have given me the needed energy to work away at things. Otherwise the summer has been spent  just walking slowly from one fan to another, and gave bad hair day a whole new meaning.
Check out the crow soup today. And also take a gander at the new website stuff.  www.highbuttonshoe.net   We will be listing new things right along, so check in often.  Thanks!!

In fond regard,
Miss Clotilda
