High Button Shoethe farm updatewebsite updates November 21, 2007...Happy Thanksgiving! Whether you are going far or not so far, whether you are hosting (poor you!), I hope you have a nice day. We are going to Beulah's NEW house (my OLD house) for dinner. My farmhouse is considerably smaller to host a large gathering, and with the purchase of the apartment size stove to fit into our smaller kitchen, I can no longer fit a turkey into my small oven !! How smart was that? Yup, I thought so too ! I am however, baking pies in the morning and spent a couple hours trying to think where my crockery pie plates I bake pies in were. Like most things, I don't have a clue where they are. But I only saved those two old crockery pans for myself and had given Beulah the others I had, so I merely would of had to walk across the road to 'borrow' hers, had I not found mine. Having bought whipping cream for the pies, I also had to think where the mixer might be AND if the cooking gods were with me, that the beaters might be WITH the mixer. I found them. So I am in business. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised at how good things work out. Often I am not.I will make all my dinner offerings in the morning. A trip into town for groceries yesterday to have the supplies was eventful, as it often is. Parking lot was full, store was full, aisles were full, and so was my cart. Have I mentioned before, I hate grocery shopping? Probably. AND I almost left my list on a shelf while getting something that required both hands to get in the cart. That would have proved pure disaster! Shopping with no list is bad anytime. Shopping for holiday dinner with no list, I might have just as well thrown myself infront of one of the many many cars in the parking lot. To end my perfect afternoon of shopping, I had gotten gas when I came into town as Walmart had gas for $3.11 and with my gas card I get it for $.03 cheaper, so was pretty pleased with myself, thinking surely it would raise in price before I left town, only to find that when leaving town 2 hours later... that it had gone DOWN in price. I swear I never gauge that purchasing right. IF I don't fill the tank, price goes up. If I do, it goes down.Beulah listed new things on the website this afternoon. Yes, I know you are all busy with preparation for tomorrow and will likely be off to the SALES on Black Friday, so won't be looking until later in the weekend. Myself, I do NOT venture out on Friday to any sales. NOTHING in sales is worth that to me! Besides my thoughts venture around getting out the Christmas things this weekend. So I will be in the basement with ALL the boxes, and hopefully can find the boxes I marked Christmas. Having thrown away all the Christmas tree lights, opting to buy new this year, and not thinking of that until now...I guess I won't be actually decorating the tree this weekend until I get lights. But then the tree candidate is still standing back on the side hill waiting to be cut, so a few days before going to get lights will be fine. I will only be able to use a small portion of my Christmas collections, due to this downsize of rooms. I got my Country Living magazine the other day and one article about an old house intrigued me as the owner voiced verbatim what I have been saying about this old house. The house and rooms themselves dictate what it will be dressed in. I merely follow its lead. I am finding many things that worked in the old house, do not work here in the farmhouse as far as decorating. Most of my collections are in boxes. I am finding that folk art, primitive though it may be, is not working here. It is my old tins, lighting, old photographs and the very old mirrors, along with the butter bowls, old carriers, and old bowls that demand their space. Having said that, I still have my favoured artists work scattered in limited amounts here and there. Mustard Seed Original, my goodest chum Miss Elspeth (www.pineberrylane.com), Bittersweet Sue, and forever in my heart, the work of Holly Schmidt. Little of my own work shows here. I did buy back some of my OLD work from a gal who bought it years ago, and loved it as I haven't worked in that type of thing in years. So that shows temporarily, but will be boxed soon in favor of Christmas fresh boughs and this year many table top trees. Even giving away truck loads of folk art, I find I still have a couple dozen trees. How does one accumulate so many trees, one might wonder? I like unusual trees so always was mesmerized by them and had to have them. I dusted off my feather tree yesterday and have that in the living room. One very OLD feather tree on the summer porch I dare not touch. Literally. It is barely together. So it will be decorated VERY carefully, with vintage balls....if I can find them.We listed more mittens. www.highbuttonshoe.net/mittens.htmand more things on the Tilda Collectionswe also added a few new things to the newest...www.highbuttonshoe.net/recent.htm . I have several more things to add in the next several days.I have dried gourd garlands and will be putting together some just gourd hangings, not a garland.I have been trying to do some eBay for a few things..but alas, they have changed the format since I did that last, and along with a problem with PhotoBucket, that I did manage to figure out, and my template, my frazzled brain after two hours of talking nasty to my computer.... I decided to wait for another day of perhaps a clearer mind and definitely a better mood. As I don't have chocolate in the house (my old brain reliable clarity), I find such things difficult until I either get help or give up. Which ever comes first. We will be offering an old cast iron Christmas tree stand that stands up on 3 legs (never have seen another like this one), and a few other things. That would be IF I can get the one thing figured out I am doing wrong. And hopefully no further problems after I get that one thing figured out!Oh, and while we have several mittens listed on the website, my beloved Mrs Seeley's red mittens are sold out. Thank you so much to all of you who have purchased them! She always loved knowing where they were being sent when I told her. I believe she still is watching and knew their destination. I DO have her WHITE mittens still, although they are limited. And the two links I gave you show the other mittens. These are great mittens to display for the holidays and all winter for that matter. The ones in the 'mittens' icon are wearable. And we are offering the CD's of both the farmhouse pictures for $15 post paid and of the old house for $15 post paid. There are over 100 pictures on each CD. This CD is compatible with your computer viewing CD's. Through MAJOR glitches and my total not understanding of a DVD rider, the DVD-RW OR a DVD+RW or even IF my computer is equipped to burn a DVD, in spite of talking with at least 6 different people about it, and getting a different answer each time.... I gave up. And even IF I could read the computer manual, which is iffy.... I am not sure I know where it is. So it will be a CD you can see on your computer to enjoy. Great pictures! I ask that you view them for your enjoyment and do NOT use them for commercial use, as your own picture for eBay templates or cards. Thank you for your honesty on that.OK, I will send you another note when Beu and me get more things around to view. In the meantime, please check out our new things. And enjoy your holiday. December will be gone in a blink of the eye, but I wish for all of us that we take time to enjoy the simple things, often gone unnoticed, and can truly appreciate this time of year. Well, while I mutter about the snow...but even the snow has beauty. It's just that I have to look a tad harder some days to find a beauty while I am muttering....Thank you for asking to be a part of our farm!Should you decide not to, merely ask to be removed.in fond regard,Tilda, keeper of the boxes & rosemary
