HIGH BUTTON SHOE
March 15, 2006
...having long believed that my nose was just a hereditary curse from my paternal grandmother, that I actually breathe thru my bare feet, so don't own any socks (save for my old grey well worn hunting socks), and am barefooted through most of the months outside, and all the months inside, I have come to the conclusion that my theory is founded, and my nose and my sinuses must run clear to my toes, as with the cold I have had for the past 11 days, this Kleenex fodder must be coming clear from my toes. I am full of snot!I waited to come down with this crud, that many others are falling victim too I hear, until after we got my Dad home from the hospital. For that, at least I am most grateful. With both Mom and Dad pumped full of antibiotics, I was left on my own with merely Vitamin C running thru my veins, when on the day Dad was to be dismissed from the hospital, a physical therapist came in, literally holding Kleenex to her face, which wasn't doing the job. Snotting, wheezing, coughing, sneezing, I backed into the furtherest corner away from her I could get . But I do believe in her brief stay, she managed to totally breathe on my whole being, and 3 days later, here I am, snot to my toes. I wish, at times like this, I had bought stock in the Kleenex and Vicks companies, as I would be my own best customer. Now that you feel totally sorry for my puniness...I must tell you that Dad's surgeries went very well and this 80 year old man was dismissed from the hospital less than 48 hours after the surgeries!!I know. I was speechless too. Mom and I went thru the freezing rain in Grand Rapids, on city streets I was not familiar with, and up here 1-1/2 hours away, we got 16 inches of snow that day.My biggest fear was not the freezing rain or the snow to my knees on unplowed side roads, but how on earth I was going to get this 6' 220# man who just had back surgery into the front seat of their small car. God does protect fools (or something to that effect), and I just did it. Worked out fine. We got him home, out of the car, up the steps, into bed, and after making another trip to Cadillac for prescriptions and the 45 minute wait for them, I got home about 7:30PM and could start my breakdown. Which I did. Dad's surgeries were a laminectomy and a kyphoplasty on L3,4,5. I would HIGHLY recommend these two Grand Rapids neurosurgeons to everyone!I want to thank all of you who wrote me concerning Dad, and those of you who added us to your prayers. Now we have to concentrate on Mom's hearing. But we are so grateful for Dad's surgery. This has been 8 months trying to get it accomplished. Sometimes medical wheels roll slowly. With my puny state of last weekend, I opted not to go to the Nashville Michigan antique/folk-art show. I figured it probably wasn't too good to go out and infect them. If you went, let me know what you thought. This is always such a great show. BrunieMae (www.saltboxfarm.com) didn't go either then as I didn't. We must plan a trip soon however, as withdrawal sets in about this time of late winter and we NEED to go somewhere. Perhaps a day trip down to see Ann atwww.greenoakantiques.com . With all this city driving in the past two months however, I have used up ANY confidence I had in making correct turns and exits. My folks' car doesn't have a compass direction on it like my truck does, so we made several right turn, right turn, right turn...suntil we got back to where we were supposed to be. AND Grand Rapids is MANY one way streets. Like that helps! My built in radar was completely shot. With my 80 year old mother in the passenger seat navigating the mapquest directions, my thoughts often went to my travels with Brunie, and our attempts to make the right exits. Mom and me however were on crowded small streets in a BIG town, whereas Bruns and me are on the open road. Either way, I guess, it is a scary thought! AND I did it all without any red licorice!Spring is trying to come to northern Michigan. Where the snow was banked up, by the resident farmer/snowplower, it still is. But much of the ground is bare. That of course, means mud. I thought fondly of Miss Elspeth (www.pineberrylane.com), last week, when I heard the first red winged blackbird of spring in the yard. She and I have passion for these songed birds, and their arrival marks the beginning of spring for us. I envision Elspeth out in her herb gardens, clearing out the winter debris and making way for sprouts to start popping thru the soil. Spring usually comes when I have absolutely NO patience left for winter. But then you know me and the word patience. Not compatible. Not often used in the same sentence.I got some new things up on crow soup which was released yesterday, as it always is on the 15th of the month. As I took Mom and Dad to Grand Rapids for post-op yesterday, I wasn't available to tell you of its release. We can be found at http://www.crowsoup.com/Market586.phpSome of our offerings are already sold. I have 2 more of the gourd garlands, and 2 more of Sherwood. Coleman is gone. I will make her again. We still have our Easter antique grass available.Probably by the first part of April, I will have my news to tell you about the website. (IF the penicillin and Tylenol Sinus continues to work...) I started taking more pictures of the shop but haven't gotten done yet what I intended. Continue to periodically check the website,www.highbuttonshoe.net . There will soon be changes. Also, Beulah just brought to my attention last night, that the advertising I placed with Country Home magazine in Jan or Feb of 2005 (2005!!!!) to announce our July 9 & 10 sale of 2005, is now showing up in the sept 2005 ads in their classified. As the year 2005 does NOT appear in the ad, I am wondering how many people will be showing up for this sale on July 9 &10!! That would be the sale that isn't!! but was! Godfrey! Just when I thought my mind was beginning to clear! How many grey hairs must be sprouting at this very moment? Thanks for asking to be a part of our farm!in fond regard,Clotildaebay ID comptonhouse
