HighButtonShoe
the farm update
December 27, 2008
snow, rain, fog, ice
....and little patience! You
know of course, of my fondness for winter? NOT! My patience was tried
sorely over the
past several weeks with record
snows. It just does not stop. Our country dirt road does not like snow.
Nor does my
truck, even with new snow
tires on. My only tolerated exercise of winter is my former
fondness for shoveling snow.
But that has dissipated weeks
ago, unlike the snow banks. Yesterday, before the rains came toward
evening and the temperature shot up to 50 degrees over night, the banks
were literally up to my armpits where I was shoveling in some areas. Ron
could not move the high banks where he had plowed with the farm plow
truck, so moved some of the snow banks back further with the
front loader of the New
Holland tractor. Even on the farm with ample acreage, it is getting
difficult to find places to put
the snow.
I, with my arctic snow packs,
which I can rarely get the liners dry now because I have them on more than
off, my long underwear, t-shirt, flannel shirt, sweat shirt and coat,
sweat pants (had to check that to make sure I hadn't typed swear pants,
which might also be appropriate..) and throat dickie to pull up over face
if need be, and my trusty ski cap that covers my entire head... make a
real fashion statement. My gloves are forever wet. And snow removal attire
hangs on all the chairs in the house to get dry. Taking the ski cap off
each day makes more of a statement. My self diagnosed self-destruct mode
of January and February came before Christmas this year.
I shovel snow each day.
Sometimes several times each day. Today with the warm temperatures, but
still needing a thin jacket, I took pictures of new items for
LemonPoppySeed
www.lemonpoppyseeds.com
which I will upload in a couple days. With melted snow and things just
heavy with 'wet', I could use the natural light of outside, which is my
preference. But there IS no sunshine today. It is a rare sight of late.
Beulah was out earlier, and
while I could not see across the road in the fog to see her house, I could
see her skating in booted feet along by the road, taking pictures. We are
making some changes in the website. Things coming down, new things will be
going up soon.
New things indeed are up!
Beulah, has become a
blogger! Found on the homepage of our website, please browse her blog. A
passion for photography and skills with a camera much better than her
mothers, she captured some awesome pictures in her blog.
www.onestillframe.blogspot.com She uses
simply photographs and simple thought provoking words or verse. You will
love it!
Also the pictures she took
this morning, in the fog are shown in the farm update
Plus I must tell you that the
picture of her family she used for the Christmas card which is shown, was
an absolute laughter moment to photograph.
I will write again in a few
days to let you know about the updates on LPS.
Until then, we are expecting a
blizzard tonight and Sunday. Oh joy! as goodest friend RhettaMae would
say.
To all of you living in snow
barren places and who wished for a flake of snow for the holidays, I wish
I could send you a BIG box full.
If you don't hear from me in a
few weeks, send chocolate! Address to SnowBank! I am sure I will be
buried in one like a frozen dog poop. Perhaps just as a precaution, I
should carry a few bags of chocolate in my pocket, you know, just to be on
the safe side.
in fond regard, Tilda
...have I mentioned I am not
fond of winter???? ok, probably..
REALLY bad hair
longing for spring
will soon be reading The
Secret Life of Bees in a book club..perhaps my only joy of January
