BEULAH

Then and Now

I can not begin to tell you how blessed I am to be back at the house I grew up in.

I loved being here as a child, with my Grandpa Herm and Grandma Byers right across the road.  I have fond memories of helping Grandpa bale hay, which of course was ALWAYS on the hottest day of the summer.  After we got done, we all knew that Grandma would have root beer floats waiting for us.

We use to pile into the car, my parents, my grandparents, my brother, my sister and me...and go to Cadillac for ice cream and then drive around and look for deer.

Climbing trees, skinned knees and chasing  cows through the marsh after they got through the fence.

Summers spent "picking potato bugs" and "tomato worms".  Playing ghost in the graveyard with the neighbor kids who lived a mile away...running through the corn field, once it towered over our heads, and getting lost.

Walking through the hay field...and laying down with the hay surrounding you...watching the clouds and making up what they looked like.

Playing house in the chicken coop...with old dishes...thinking we were so grown up...

Standing at the top of our hill and watching the train go by...it was more than a mile away...but oh so thrilling to watch.

Leaving the house in the morning...being gone all day...and mom not having to worry where we were...

Not everyone is blessed with happy childhood memories...which makes my heart sad.  Your childhood should be filled with love and learning and laughing...  Those were simpler times...ones that I wish we could go back to...

I wish for my children to have the happiness here that I had...

thank you Mom and Dad, thank you Grandpa and Grandma

I'll always remember...I love you!!!  Robin Ann
